to add to my comment. Math isn't about quick mental calculations or whatever. Sure, it is amazing if you can factor, even complex polynomials, in a split second, but Math is more than that. anyway, I am not criticizing you in a negative way. This is just in my point of view as a Math major.
Remember, in math, to be effective you can't become too complicated, particularly at the level targeted by Adam's video, but also at any level. Math is all about finding answers. It's not just study, it's an effective vehicle for uncovering secrets!, and you find it in every area of life.
Actually, if you don't already know how these things work then you'll never be able to memorise the formulae in the first place.
